Use Your 3DS NFC Reader for Skylanders?
NFC Reader Compatibility
Unfortunately, you cannot use the built-in NFC reader on your Nintendo 3DS to play Skylanders games. The NFC reader is only compatible with Nintendo's own amiibo figures and does not support Skylanders figurines.
Portal Requirement
To play Skylanders games on the Nintendo 3DS, you will need to purchase a separate Skylanders portal. The portal is required to lock in your Skylanders figures and allow you to use them in-game.
Other Gaming Consoles
While you cannot use the 3DS NFC reader for Skylanders, there are NFC-enabled portals available for other gaming consoles, such as the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360. However, these portals are not compatible with the Nintendo 3DS versions of the Skylanders games.
KAOS Skylander
KAOS is a special Skylander that can be used in all Skylanders games, including those on the Nintendo 3DS. However, KAOS cannot be unlocked without using a Skylanders portal.
Compatible 3DS Games
The Superchargers portal for the Nintendo 3DS is compatible with older 3DS Skylanders games, including Spyro's Adventure, Swap Force, and Trap Team. This means that you can use your existing Skylanders figures with these games on the 3DS.
