Basit Ali wants PCB to implement India’s domestic structure
The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has been urged to implement India’s domestic structure in order to improve the country’s red-ball cricket.
Former Pakistan batsman Basit Ali believes that the PCB should adopt a similar system to India’s, which has been credited with producing a number of world-class Test players in recent years.
“India’s domestic structure is very strong,” Ali told PakPassion.net. “They have a lot of quality players and they play a lot of first-class cricket. This gives their players the experience and exposure they need to succeed at international level.”
India’s domestic structure
India’s domestic cricket structure consists of the following competitions:
- Ranji Trophy (first-class)
- Duleep Trophy (first-class)
- Vijay Hazare Trophy (one-day)
- Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy (Twenty20)
The Ranji Trophy is the premier first-class competition in India, and it is contested by 38 teams from across the country. The Duleep Trophy is a zonal competition that is played between five teams, while the Vijay Hazare Trophy and Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy are national one-day and Twenty20 competitions, respectively.
Benefits of India’s domestic structure
India’s domestic structure has a number of benefits, including:
- A large number of quality players
- A high level of competition
- A long season that gives players plenty of experience
These factors have all contributed to India’s success in Test cricket in recent years. The team has won the Border-Gavaskar Trophy on three of the last four occasions, and they are currently ranked number one in the world in the ICC Test rankings.
PCB should implement India’s domestic structure
Basit Ali believes that the PCB should implement a similar domestic structure to India’s if they want to improve their red-ball cricket.
“I think it would be a great move for the PCB to implement India’s domestic structure,” Ali said. “It would give our players the opportunity to play more first-class cricket and it would help them to develop the skills and experience they need to succeed at international level.”
Conclusion
India’s domestic cricket structure is one of the best in the world, and it has been credited with producing a number of world-class Test players in recent years. The PCB would be wise to implement a similar system if they want to improve their red-ball cricket.
