Zurich, Switzerland - February 28, 2023
Swiss national coach Murat Yakin has unveiled his preliminary 38-man squad for the upcoming UEFA Euro 2024 tournament. The squad features a mix of experienced veterans and promising youngsters, with Yakin set to finalize his 26-man roster later this spring.
Notable inclusions include captain Granit Xhaka, goalkeeper Yann Sommer, and defender Ricardo Rodriguez. Yakin has also called up several uncapped players, such as midfielder Noah Okafor and forward Ruben Vargas.
The Swiss will begin their Euro 2024 campaign on June 14th against Hungary in Budapest. They will then face Scotland and Croatia in their other Group A matches. The tournament will be held across 10 cities in Germany from June 14th to July 14th.
Yakin will be eager to guide Switzerland to their first major tournament title since their success at Euro 1960. The Swiss have reached the quarterfinals of the past two World Cups but have never progressed beyond the round of 16 at the European Championship.
